My friend Clay Anita has just started to receive the acknowledgement and attention he deserves as an artist. His work is primarily body casting with plaster and painting and he has spent the past 20 years or more developing his craft. I have been honored to be casted several times by him and every time I am moved by his gift to see parts of me mostly unseen and capture the essence of who I am in an art piece.... the first photo is a piece that is my favorite... it is a bohemian, sad, joyful piece of my stomach which instantly reminded me of my favorite cover album of all time, Janet Jackson Control.... that cover inspired me to love my stomach and reminded me of the power in the body of the sacred feminine. It also broke my heart that the world at the time did not see a certain amount of fat on a woman’s stomach as sensual, abundant, and joyful...none of these thoughts or feelings have I ever shared publicly or acknowledged really to anyone until now... and Clay captured all of this in this piece without ever saying a word or knowing any of my history...this is just one of the pieces on display now at Artisan Palette for the next month and I can think of no greater gift to give a loved one or yourself to have a casting done and be seen by Clay.
